Check-in pointers

During times of extra security measures and holiday traffic, passengers should plan to check-in for all flights three hours prior to departure.

Typically, Hawaiian Airlines recommends the following check-in times:

  • two hours prior to departure for interisland flights
  • three hours for flights between Hawaii and U.S. mainland
  • three hours for international flights

Web check-in service is available to passengers who may check-in 24 hours in advance and no less than 90 minutes prior to departure.

Self-service check-in kiosks are available at O'ahu, Kaua'i, Maui, Kona, and Hilo airports.

Drive-through check-in service is offered for inter-island passengers at Honolulu International Airport, from 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily.

Frequent-flier program

Passengers can earn free flights with the Hawaiian Miles program, which is affiliated with Northwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air and Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Miles won't expire as long as some are accumulated or redeemed within a three-year period.

Airport club/lounge

For $150 or 20,000 Hawaiian Miles, a passenger can gain access to Hawaiian's Premier Club lounges, an exclusive reservations line, express check-in, priority boarding and in-flight amenities.

Lounge facilities are available at airports in Hilo, Honolulu, Kahului, Kona, Lihue, Los Angeles and Pago Pago.

Carry-on limits

Passengers are limited to one carry-on bag plus one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase, laptop computer or backpack.

Exceptions may include but are not limited to an overcoat or wrap, an infant's diapers and/or food for consumption along the way.  

Other baggage tips

Hawaiian Airlines accepts non-motorized touring or racing bicycles with single seats and bicycles with tandem seats. Check bicycles at the same time you check bags at the ticket counter. Fees apply: $25.00 between points within the State of Hawaii; $50.00 between Hawaii and points in the Continental USA; $50.00 between points within the Continental USA.

Surfboards can be checked as baggage as long as they are in a proper container. Fees apply: $25.00 between any two points in Hawaii; $80.00 between Hawaii and the Continental USA; $80.00 between points within the Continental USA; $80.00 between Hawaii and the South Pacific; $100.

In-flight meal options

Hawaiian Airlines offers full meals in first class and coach for flights to and from Hawaii to mainland US and South Pacific destinations.

Unaccompanied children

Unaccompanied minor service is available for children ages 5-7 on nonstop flights only; children ages 8-11 on Hawaiian Airlines flights wholly within Hawaii and children ages 8-1 on flights between Hawaii and the mainland USA. Hawaiian Airlines will escort an unaccompanied child from the boarding of the aircraft until the child is met at the destination. Hawaiian Airlines requires identification and signature of the person meeting the unaccompanied child. Children traveling unaccompanied pay a full adult fare plus an additional fee as follows:

 $35.00 one-way for interisland flights

$50.00 one-way for nonstop flights between the mainland USA and Hawaii

$75.00 one-way for connecting flights (HA only) between the mainland USA and Hawaii

Travel for unaccompanied minors of any age will not be allowed on a Hawaiian Airlines flight departing between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless travel is on flights operating out of Honolulu which are the only flight of the day. Unaccompanied Minors will not be accepted for travel on the last connecting flight of the day to their final destination. In addition, Unaccompanied Minors are not accepted on flights to/from international destinations or to American Samoa, or which require an overnight stay in order to make a connection. Unaccompanied Minors are not accepted on any code share flights.


Hawaiian Airlines has restrictions on the types of animals and breeds that it will accept for travel.

Pets entering the state of Hawaii are not permitted in the cabin and must be checked as baggage or sent through Hawaiian Air Cargo. Because pets must arrive into Honolulu due to quarantine requirements,  they cannot ship pets on non-stop flights to Maui.

The carrier will not ship animals if temperatures exceed 85 degrees F or falls below 20 degrees F. The airline will not ship animals between April 15 and October 15 to or from the following U.S. cities: Las Vegas, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Jose.

Service animals are permitted without charge with proper documentation, but quarantine laws may apply to certain destinations. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure compliance with all entry regulations.
