OVERVIEW

Raleigh-Durham International is undergoing a massive expansion effort in Terminal C that eventually will replace its 18-gate terminal with a 40-gate facility.

Airport security guidelines

Travel tip: As you drive into RDU, watch the electronic signs for information on parking availability. Signs will guide you to hourly, daily and Park & Ride lots.

DRIVING

RDU is about 10 miles northwest of Raleigh and 10 miles southeast of Durham; it's also seven miles from Research Triangle.

Passenger pick-up: A cell phone waiting lot is located in the rental car area across from Alamo.

PARKING

Cheapest: Park and Ride lots 3 and 4 are $6 daily; lots 2 and 5 are $5, but these are not open year-round. Courtesy buses link Park and Ride lots to terminals A and C every 20 minutes between 4 a.m. and about 1 a.m.

Most convenient: The main parking garages are right between terminals A and C and max out at $24 for the hourly lots, $10 for the daily lots. The hourly rate at all lots is $1.

Payment: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diner's Club, Discover, cash and travelers checks are accepted.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

Shuttle: Triangle Transit Authority operates an airport shuttle that takes passengers to downtown Raleigh, Durham, downtown Chapel Hill and Research Triangle Park for $2.00 each way. If you need to transfer to another system to reach your destination, save money by buying a regional day pass. Call (919) 549-9999 for details.

Cab: RDU Airport Taxi Service, operated by Dulles Airport Taxi, Inc. through an agreement with the Airport Authority, are available 24 hours a day and can be dispatched from the booth on the lower level of Terminals A and C. Cab fares are about $28 to Raleigh and Durham, $35 to Chapel Hill and $18.50 to Cary.

RENTAL CARS

Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty serve RDU. Thrifty is located off airport premises and offers shuttle service for customers.

Wireless Internet: Wi-Fi is available at RDU through AT&T. More information.

Triangle Cyber Café in Terminal C offers customers complimentary wireless Internet access.

Internet service: Internet kiosks are located in Terminal A on the concourse at Gates 10, 22, and 25 and also in the non-ticketed areas at Baggage Claim 2 and near the information desk in Terminal A extension. Terminal C has an Internet kiosk by Gate 15.

Business centers: Currency exchange, wire service, photocopying and travel insurance are located in Terminal A near the information desk, and in Terminal C between gates 15 and 16.
