AREQUIPA - COLCA CANYON
ITINERARY:DAY #1: Arrival, reception and transfer to hotel. We’ll welcome you to Peru with a Pisco Sour toast. Pisco, the national drink of Peru, is a brandy liquor distilled from grapes originating in the city of "Pisco," 250 km south of Lima (Available only in first class, deluxe hotels).
In the afternoon, we’ll tour the city, strolling the main streets, squares and avenues. We’ll visit the Main Square where we’ll find the Presidential and Municipal Palaces, the Cathedral housing the tomb of Spanish Conqueror Francisco Pizarro and the Museum of Religious Art. Then we’ll visit the residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores before arriving at a panoramic viewpoint where you’ll enjoy the beautiful Pacific Ocean seascape. Lodging.
DAY #2: Breakfast. Day at leisure. Lodging.
DAY #3: Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Departure to Cusco city. Arrival, reception and transfer to hotel. Welcome gathering with "coca tea" to help our travelers adjust to the high altitude. Rest of morning at leisure.
In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Imperial City. We’ll tour the inside of the Cathedral where you’ll enjoy beautiful woodwork and colonial paintings. Next, we’ll visit the Korikancha, "The Temple of the Sun." Then we’ll stroll the streets of the Artisan’s Quarters of San Blas and visit a church with an impressive carved woodwork pulpit. While here, we’ll also have plenty of time to shop at the most famous artisan’s market in the city. Lodging.
DAY #4: Breakfast.
DAY #5: Breakfast and transfer to the station to board the train to the citadel of "Machu Picchu", the Sacred City, considered to be the New Spiritual Center of the World. We’ll travel through the corridors, visiting the ceremonial centers and terraces. Buffet lunch. Overnight at the hotel Orient Express Sanctuary Lodge, located at the top of the mountain or at the hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes in accordance with the selected category. Lodging.
DAY #6: Breakfast. Day at leisure. You’ll have time to visit to the citadel to meditate and absorb the energies flowing in this sacred place, climb Mount Intipunku, enter Machu Picchu from the Inca Trail, or head to Mount Huayna Picchu, where the Temple of the Moon is located. We recommend visiting the local Museum near to the town of Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon we’ll return to Cusco by train. Lodging.
DAY #7: Breakfast and transfer to the airport.
Alcoholic beverages, tips, meals not mentioned on the program, air tickets and tax fee (US $6.50 for national flights and US $32.00 for international flight) are not included.
