Visit the Farnsworth House, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1951, and located near Plano, Illinois, about 60 miles west of Chicago. This famous glass house is an example of modernist domestic architecture and was considered unprecedented in its day. This masterpiece of steel and glass on the banks of the Fox River gives it visitors unsurpassed views through transparent walls. The house is currently owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
