Check-in pointers

Cathay advises passengers to arrive at least three hours prior to departure when departing a U.S. or Canadian airport. During times of high security precautions, passengers departing LAX should arrive at the airport 3 1/2 hours early.

CXpress kiosks allow passengers who book their tickets online to bypass long check-in lines at Hong Kong and Taipei international airports.

For passengers who check in online and who fly out of Hong Kong International Airport, luggage should be checked at least 45 minutes before departure directly at Hong Kong International Airport counters B21-29.

Frequent-flier program

The Marco Polo Club allows passengers to earn points toward free upgrades, airport lounge access and other benefits. These points can be earned on Cathay Pacific flights and other carriers, including Japan Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Qantas Airways, Aer Lingus, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Swiss, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, LanChile and South African Airways.

Airport club or lounge

Cathay Pacific passengers have access to airport lounges in dozens of countries. First- and business-class passengers, as well as Marco Polo Club members, can access them.

At Hong Kong International Airport, Cathay has two premiere lounges: The Wing and The Pier. Amenities include shower suites, a noodle bar and wireless Internet access.

Carry-on policy

One piece of carry-on baggage is allowed, and must not exceed 15 pounds (7 kg) and 14 inches x 9 inches x 22 inches (35.5 cm x 23 cm x 56 cm).

The following items are allowed in addition to the carry-on: a small handbag or purse, coat, umbrella, walking stick, small camera or binoculars, and baby food for in-flight consumption.

Baby buggies and adult wheelchairs should be checked in as hold baggage.

All First and Business Class travelers can also bring either one garment bag measuring a maximum of 8 inches (20 cm) thick when folded in half, or one soft bag no more than 8 inches (20 cm) thick.

In-flight meal options

Cathay Pacific offers a variety of special meals including Indian vegetarian, Strict Indian vegetarian, Western vegetarian, Strict Western vegetarian, Oriental vegetarian, Kosher Moslem, Hindu non vegetarian, Infant, Junior child and various medical diet meals.

Unaccompanied children

The Cathay Pacific staff looks after children between 6 and 12 years old who are flying alone. If more than six children are scheduled to travel alone on a flight, a specially trained "Flying Guardian" accompanies them.


No animals are allowed in the passenger cabin, except service dogs. Dogs, cats, birds and other pets can be shipped in the cargo compartment.

Cool or useful amenities

All kids receive a backpack that contains stationery, games and activity books.
